The summer season · May – September

Ice cream truck catering in metro Detroit.

Howdy Doodles is an ice cream truck built like a covered stagecoach, with a hand-dipping counter inside it. From May through September it works metro Detroit out of Southgate, and the summer runs on the festival calendar: farmers markets, concert series and city festivals first, with June graduation parties, weddings and company picnics fitted around them. Eleven flavors on the painted board, floats, and dairy-free Italian ice, dipped in front of your guests.

Who books it here

What the ice cream truck is booked for in Michigan.

Graduation open houses

Families hosting the June open house, where the same driveway sees sixty people in four hours and the dessert has to hold a crowd without a kitchen.

The coach parks in the drive and hand dips through the afternoon — the thing the neighbours mention afterwards, and the reason the party photographs well.

  • June or early July, a Saturday
  • 50–200 people across an afternoon
  • A driveway, a yard or a hall
  • Guests arriving in waves
  • Something for every age in one line

Weddings & receptions

Couples marrying May through September across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw, choosing dessert after the venue and the caterer are settled.

The dessert hour. The coach parks at the reception and hand dips through the last dance, so the queue is part of the evening rather than a table nobody visits.

  • Outdoor or barn venue
  • 100–200 guests
  • A planner or venue coordinator
  • A certificate of insurance asked for up front
  • Something guests will photograph

Company picnics

HR teams, plant managers and neighbourhood organisers across Detroit and the Downriver suburbs, feeding a shift or a street without building a caterer's tent.

A serving window with its own generator. The coach rolls in, runs its hours and rolls out — no kitchen, no cleanup left behind.

  • A set start and end time
  • 100–500 people
  • A parking lot, park or closed street
  • A single organiser signing off
  • It repeats every year

Festivals & markets

Festival committees, market managers and PTA organisers — the circuit the coach already works: the Trenton farmers market, the Goudy Park concert series in Wayne, MI Taco Fest in Sterling Heights, Canterbury Village in Lake Orion.

One festival day on one vendor application. The coach is its own booth, generator and queue, and the wheels bring people across a field to look at it.

  • A published vendor application
  • A daytime family crowd
  • Outdoors, with vendor parking
  • The same weekend every year
  • Food trucks in last year's lineup

The season

How the Michigan summer runs.

Recurring windows rather than dates: which events the coach works is on its own record, which weekend of which year is not. Send your date and the quote comes back.

Season opens · May – June

  • Late May

Memorial Day block parties · Downriver & Detroit

The first warm weekend on a closed street. The season's opening dates, and the ones neighbourhood organisers book a year ahead.

  • June, every Saturday

Graduation open houses · Across metro Detroit

The busiest four weekends of the Michigan year. Saturdays book first and they book early — a June date asked for in June is usually already gone.

  • June onward

Farmers markets & summer concerts · Trenton · Wayne

The Trenton farmers market and the Goudy Park concert series are both on the coach's own event history — recurring evenings rather than one-off dates.

High summer · July – August

  • July – August

Company picnics · Detroit & the suburbs

Plant and office picnics land midweek as often as weekends, which is exactly when a wedding-heavy calendar has room.

  • July – August

Festival weekends · Sterling Heights · Lake Orion

MI Taco Fest and Canterbury Village are on the coach's history. Festival crowds are what a two-window trailer is built for.

  • Peak weekends

    Weddings · Wayne · Oakland · Macomb · Washtenaw

Saturday evenings from June to September. The dessert hour is booked months after the venue, which is when most couples find the coach.

Season closes · September – October

  • September

Car shows & fall festivals · Ann Arbor & west

An Ann Arbor car show run is on the event history — the season's last long haul before the coach turns south.

  • September

School & church fall events · Across metro Detroit

Fall festivals and welcome-back nights, booked by the same PTA organiser who books the spring carnival.

  • October

The coach goes south · On to the Tampa area

Michigan closes and the Florida season opens. A late-October Michigan date is worth asking about early — the tow is the constraint, not the calendar.

Booking a Michigan date?

Send the date, the town and roughly how many guests. Every event is quoted for the day — the occasion, the guest count, how long the window is open and the tow set the number, not a menu board.
